We have carried out intensive R\u0026amp;D to develop an intake which not only improves on the stock M3\/M4 but also is future proof in its capacity to cater for high powered builds well in excess of 1000hp. Our system is a complete redesign from the airboxes to the turbo inlets with the aim of reducing pressure loss while increasing the flow rate and keeping inlet temperatures low. We have maximised the usage of the available space to employ 2 custom made filters with a 40% larger filtration area than stock. These are used in our Patented Venturi housings to smoothly funnel the air to the turbo inlets. The inlets themselves are up to 160% larger in cross sectional area than stock and are designed with an advanced dimpled inner surface to reduce frictional losses between the flow and the wall boundary. By allowing a “cushion” of air at the wall surface, airflow is able to move through the inlets at higher flow rates with reduced pressure loss. However on closer inspection, there are restrictions in the inlet tube connecting the airbox to the inlet manifold. By redesigning the tube yet maintaining the airbox, we have been able to allow the V8 engine to breathe with greater efficiency and therefore gain power.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003eIn addition to the new tube design, we also identified a further restriction in the air feed system. To overcome this, we designed a scoop to allow an increase in airflow through the airbox. The testing was done on the same day back-to-back and temperatures were monitored to ensure consistency. The car was tested firstly with the stock intake - hood closed. We then left the car on the dyno and installed the Eventuri. The car was then run again - hood closed. The car was fitted with the stock system and then data was logged in 4th gear to the redline. Then the Eventuri intake was fitted and the same method applied. The outputs show that the air mass flow with the Eventuri is higher across the entire RPM range - with a bigger difference at higher RPM where the restrictions in the stock system become more apparent. Furthermore the difference between the ambient temperature and the inlet air temperature (IAT) is also smaller with the Eventuri due to the scoop enabling a higher air speed through the airbox. The carbon pod shrouds the reverse mounted filter and smoothly shapes the airflow down to the intake tube. This smooth reduction in cross sectional area invokes the Venturi effect where the airflow accelerates whilst maintaining laminar conditions. This carbon duct has been designed to fit over the stock cold air duct and direct ambient air from the scoop into the filter. It seals against the engine bay heat whilst still allowing some air entry from the cold side of the engine bay where the hood meets the wing. In addition, there is a heat shield attached to the side which blocks the hot air from the radiator and the alternator from directly impacting onto the carbon housing. Each tube has an integrated MAF sensor mount and breather adapter which are CNC machined from aluminium. In order to clear the fan shroud we smoothly transitioned the cross section from a circle to an oval and maintained constant area.
